Why two languages on one page

Most bilingual worksheets are two separate files: an English version and a translated version. That creates three problems — the pictures drift out of sync, the teacher has to match pages by hand, and the child who needs both languages ends up with two sheets instead of one.

LingoSheets prints both languages on the same face. A monolingual teacher can run the activity from the picture and the English word; a family at home can read the home-language word; a newcomer can connect the two without a translation app.

Three ways teachers use them

  • Dual-language classroom: print one sheet per child and use the same page for both language groups. The picture carries the meaning.
  • Newcomer support: the home-language word gives the student a way in while the English word is being learned. See the ESL hub for a first-week routine.
  • Heritage families: send the flashcard page home so families can practise both languages without a screen.

Languages and pairings

The site includes English, Spanish, Chinese (simplified, with pinyin and tone marks) and French. You can set Language A and Language B independently in any maker — Spanish + English, Chinese + English, French + Spanish, or any other combination. The language-pair pages explain the differences.

Chinese needs more than a translated word: every entry carries pinyin, and the tracing maker prints 田字格 grids with a light-grey model character. That is the part most English-first worksheet sites miss.

What to avoid

Do not use a bilingual sheet as a translation exercise for the whole lesson. The point is access, not word-for-word conversion. Ask children to name the picture in either language first, then move to the target language for the written task.
